Googe Street and down...

On Saturday, L and I, despite being warm and comfy, and possessing of a large pile of Docty Who DVDs and takeout menus, dragged ourselves out into the weather to attend the Reclaim the Night march from Trafalgar Square up to the ULU Union. We were lazy and skipped out the beginning bit and just went straight to Goodge Street Tube (also nearest station to the Tav, for them that likes a pint and chatting with other Docty Who nerds)

Unsure of the route of the march we stood in the station entrance, staring at the local map, trying to decide which way to go, until we realised we just had to follow the yelling and whistling, which arrived conveniently just outside at that moment. A female black cab driver beeped her horn enthusiatically, and rude gestures from people on buses were rebuffed with such vigour the man in question quailed. I hope he soiled himself. I am Diva, hear the PVC squeak.

Sadly, in our enthusiasm to get on with the demonstrating, we forgot to collect the station on camera, so on Monday on the final leg of our jaunt G and I went back up the Northern Line hoping to walk from Goodge Street to the British Museum for a spot of culture.

Power failure had taken out the whole museum, and surrounding streets, so cultureless we finished up the Northern Line down via TCR, scene of the escalator death in American Werewolf in London. Lovely mosaic murals. They might be bright and cheesey, but they are one of the most indelible things burnt into my early experiences of visiting London when such a wee nipper that Forbidden Planet was still a tiny shop on Denmark Street.

from there, a skip down through China Town to Leicester Square, smelling of chinese roast pork and massed with people as dark fell.

Security alert had closed Charing Cross, so we just slipped through the maze nasty seventies orange tiles corridors under the street...

...to pop up in Villiers Street and walked down through streaming rush hour commuters down to Embankment.

the wall panels here very 80's looking less inspired by Mondrian and more a hommage to L'Oreal St-st-studio Line hair care products.

D&C round to Sloane Square, and down the Kings Road to tea and refuge, and Pyramids of Mars.

All in all, 14 stations down...

Some great photos, divawhore! I love the Charing Cross and TCR ones, and the Leicester Sq one weirdly manages to convey exactly how that place feels.

yup - G took some that went blurred, but the teeming masses of blurred people, the confusion of lights, and noise and traffic and smells was much more evident in that shot. And you can read the name.

I love TCR - if it wasn't so dangerous, and too busy, we'd have loved to do an escalator shot as per American Werewolf.

Any suggestios as to next destinations you'd fancy accompanying me too?

What's TCR? For those of us who don't ride the Tub as often as you do.. :)

Also, 'St-st-studio!' Wahahaha! For years, I did in fact think that was the actual lyric to that stupid Phil Collins song. God I hate Phil Collins. Is it just me, or has he had a Brazilian bikini wax done on his head?

sorry sweetie! TCR is Tottenham Court Road. It's the station used in American Werewolf in London and the walls are covered in wonderful mosaics. I've always loved it.

It was one of the first underground stations I got to know.
