November 12th, 2007
Diverting slightly from the remit of this journal, returning to the tube-free environs of Syndenham for this:
Sunday 18th November
Organised by the Joseph Paxton Society
"Join us for a walkabout in the Park that explores the history and legacy of John Logie Baird and the role of Crystal Palace Park in the development of British Television. We will visit the sites of the studios, the design laboratories, the transmitters and the manufacturing plant. It will include a brief talk on the BBC transmitter and a tour of the exhibit ‘JLB – The Sydenham Years’ and the display at the Crystal Palace Museum. We probably can’t help mentioning a bit about Paxton and the Palace along the way."
Dates:
Saturday & Sunday, November 10th – 11th
Sunday November 18th
Walkabouts start at 1pm from the Park Information Centre, Thicket Road (Penge Entrance)
There is no charge for these Walkabouts.
The dinosaurs in the park have recently been restored to their former glory, so looking forward to seeing them again. On my last visit to the park, when I actually lived just up the road, they were looking pretty tatty and sad, and the sphinxes were covered in graffiti. The Crystal Palace Museum is only open on Sundays so a good chance to have a look around there as well.
